Bibimbap is a vibrant and flavorful Korean rice bowl that combines a harmonious medley of seasoned vegetables, protein, and spicy gochujang sauce. Originating from Korea, bibimbap literally means 'mixed rice.' Traditionally served as a humble yet hearty meal, it gained international fame for its beautiful presentation and customizable ingredients. Today, bibimbap is celebrated worldwide, loved for its nutritional balance and comforting warmth.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked short-grain rice
  • 1 cup spinach, blanched and squeezed dry
  • 1 cup julienned carrots
  • 1 cup bean sprouts, blanched
  • 4 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

    Marinate the sliced beef with soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

    Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.

    In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed. Fry each egg sunny-side up and set aside.

    Prepare each vegetable: blanch spinach and bean sprouts, sauté carrots and mushrooms with a touch of oil, salt, and pepper until tender.

    Assemble the bibimbap bowls by placing a serving of cooked rice at the bottom of each bowl.

    Arrange the cooked vegetables and beef on top of the rice in sections to create a colorful presentation.

    Place a fried egg on top of each bowl.

    Serve each bowl with a dollop of gochujang, sprinkled with sesame seeds.

    Before eating, mix all the ingredients thoroughly to blend flavors and textures.
