Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki is a classic Greek dish that captures the essence of Mediterranean flavors. Tender, marinated chicken skewers are grilled to perfection, offering a smoky, juicy bite in every mouthful. Paired with the cool, creamy Tzatziki sauce, this dish is perfect for outdoor barbecues, casual weeknight dinners, or special gatherings craving authentic Greek cuisine.

Originating from Greece, souvlaki has been a beloved street food for centuries. Its name derives from the Turkish word 'şiş,' meaning skewer. Over time, it gained popularity across Greece and beyond, becoming a symbol of Greek hospitality and vibrant culinary traditions. The combination of seasoned grilled chicken and tangy Tzatziki makes for a flavorful, satisfying meal that transports your taste buds straight to the Mediterranean shores.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 wooden skewers (soaked in water)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add chicken pieces and toss to coat. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

While the chicken marinates, prepare the Tzatziki sauce: in a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, chopped dill, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir well and refrigerate until ready to serve.

  3. 3

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.

  4. 4

Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the soaked wooden skewers.

  5. 5

Grill the chicken skewers for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and nicely charred.

  6. 6

Remove the skewers from the grill and let rest for a minute.

  7. 7

Serve the Chicken Souvlaki hot, accompanied by a generous dollop of Tzatziki sauce.
